Time is of the Essence
by Eugenie Knox
Welcome to Yoga session No. 4.
Time is essential to live a full and happy life. We have multiple compartments we have to fulfil every day and this is the challenge with time……
1. Relationships
2. Work
3. Family
4. Health
5. Relaxation
The list could continue but already it is beginning to eat into the day and night where our time is concerned. How to fit everything into 24 hours, 7 days, 4 weeks , or 12 months. Our birthday comes around very quickly as we all observe mournfully as we grow older each time we strike up another year. We are all controlled by time and the lack of it.
We only have a certain amount of time here on this planet. Adages about ‘time’ are abundant: All things in their right time. Time will tell. Time heals all wounds. The time is right. Give me Time. Killing Time.
The yogis say we are here for the duration of a certain amount of breaths granted to us by our Destiny. Everyone has a different number of breaths and it is beyond our control to change that. The cycle of Birth, Death and Rebirth is considered a painful experience and the intelligent thinking person discovers this truth and asks the question ‘Do I waste time’?
‘Time is of the Essence’. What does this mean? What essence? Our essence. Our existence. Our purpose, meaning and soul fulfilment.
Naturally in this fast moving time hungry ‘rat race’ we call modern living, we don’t have time anymore. No time to laugh, cry or love. The yogis explain that Reality is not this world we see, taste, touch, hear and smell. It is not the physical world at all. And it is not virtual reality either.

The Real is the Essence, the Ultimate Reality is the Law of Cause and Effect, Karma and the Consciousness within each and everyone. We ignore the urges of the Soul. We stifle our inner promptings. We want to indulge, to take the easy road, to live within confines that are comfortable.
Yesterday has gone, Tomorrow has not arrived and today is a gift because it is the ‘Present’.
The Yogis state emphatically ‘LIVE IN THE PRESENT, WHICH IS TIMELESS, ETERNAL AND REAL - THE CREATIVE NOW!
Thus begins the wonderful exploration of the present moment – good luck!
