The Art of Drinking Water - Part 2
by Professor Xue Zhao, MD, PhD, Professor Medicine/Cardiology/Electrophysiology Shanghai Changzheng Hospital

After a night's sleep, your body really needs water. Drinking about 250cc of water as soon as you get up helps clean out your liver and kidney. It's a good idea to hold off on breakfast until the water has entered every cell of your body, so try not to eat for half an hour after drinking the water. Drink at least 250cc of water when you get to work to refresh yourself. After working several hours in a closed office, the heat may dry out your skin. Drink some water to help moisturize your body and decrease work-related stress. Drinking water after lunch not only helps your digestion but also helps keep your body in shape.
In the afternoon you may feel sleepy, that means you should drink some water to give yourself refreshment. Before you leave the office, drinking water can make you feel full. It especially works for people on diets. Drink a cup of water half an hour before you sleep, which can preveny stroke and heart attack induced by blood clots. It may interrupt your sleep during the night if you drink more water within half an hour before sleep.
